Coachella 09

COACHELLA 09'
DSC_0218.JPG
Just got back from Coachella! Here are my highlights:

* The Black Keys performed an amazing set. This was the first time I got to see them live and they delivered
* It was good to get the chance to check out Paul McCartney, since I will probably never have that opportunity again
* Fleet Foxes was just like I hoped... fantastic
* The Cure played a great set of new and old. It had a great casual feel to it and was the perfect show to end the fest

Other noteworthy things:
* Peter Bjorn and John was absolutely awesome, as were the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I'm still processing all the great things I saw.
If you made it out to the fest let me know what your highlights were.

Richard's picks and adventures-
After setting up camp quickly started to hit the bottle and check out the Filter party. Saw Flossadramus rock it till the end of the evening with a pretty packed crowd on some poolside type shindig. Met up with Franki Chan with friends and lost track of time and somehow woke up in my tent. I decided to go camping this year cause I didn't want to miss a beat.
Next morning met the neighbor campers and made some new fweinds!
Saw Leonard Cohen, Buraka Soma Sistema, Felix da Housecat, Morrisey, The Black Keys, Franz Ferdinand, Cage the Elephant, Paul McCartney ( the opening dj blew chunks) and some other stuff. Spent the rest of the evening hanging out with new fellow tent friends.
Saturday met up with old friend Damon and saw a few shows. Glass Candy, Henry Rollins, Liars, M.I.A (with Blaqstarr and RYE RYE), P.O.S, Surkin, Chemical Brothers, Micheal Franti & Spearhead. Ran into the lead singer from T.V. on the Radio and exchanged some words on ideas and such but of course missed their show. I've missed there show I think about 7 times. WHAT THE FUCK!
Missed Jesse Lee's super duper Dubfrequency party. I heard it blew the other parties out of the water though.
Sunday met up with Paul Devro, DJ Klever, Nick Catchdubs w/ Atrak, Graham, Toyselectah and more. Met my gay husband. Dude is the best. It was like sxsw followed me to Coachella. hahaha.
Saw Flying Lotus which was awesome. Notable shows that I saw were BusyP ( sorry about the beach ball), Lupe Fiasco, Lykki Li, Public Enemy, Clipse( they flaked), the cure ( i thought dude was boring), watched My Bloody Valentine ( I was blown the fuck away, WOW), Roni Size, Sebastien Tellier, The Knux, The Orb, Throbing Gristle, X, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Gaslight Anthem, Paul Weller ( this was cool)

Spent my birthday in Elpaso with Joe and Alex and went to a punk rock bar to toss pitchers while listening to Morrisey. Looked at Juarez from the deck and came home with this awesome shirt they made me. Some how ended up at this hotel eatting cookies. El Paso, I love you guys!

Overall it was fun and next year going to go hard. Seriously.

In theaters - Taken

Here's a movie I really want to see that somehow slipped under my radar until now.   It's the story of an ex CIA badass who's daughter gets kidnapped and he has to kick all sorts of ass for the sake of vengeance.  A guilty pleasure.  It's apparently very fast paced, violent, and quasi believable.  I'm sold... especially since the film was co-written by Luc Besson of 'The Professional' fame.  The trailer is really cool too.  check it out!
